Thailand: shoots in Bangkok market then kills himself, 5 dead

Bangkok (Thailand), July 28 (LaPresse/AP) – A gunman killed five people at a popular fresh market in Thailand’s capital Bangkok before taking his own life, according to police, who linked the shooting to a personal vendetta. Among the victims were four security guards from the Or Tor Kor market in northern Bangkok. A street vendor was also killed, and two others were injured. The market is located near the large Chatuchak weekend market, popular with both Thai and foreign tourists. Bangkok’s metropolitan police commissioner said the gunman’s wife claimed he held a grudge against the guards for allegedly scratching his car in 2019 or 2020. The wife runs a food stall at the market. “Mr. Noi is someone who deeply loves and protects his car, and he is also a violent person,” reads the statement, identifying the suspect only by his nickname. After the shooting, the man walked away and shot himself dead on a bench. He was wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage shorts, a baseball cap, and a backpack.
