Israel, Netanyahu convenes security chiefs over Gaza plans

Turin, August 5 (LaPresse) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene a closed-door security meeting today to discuss military plans for Gaza. According to Channel 12, the meeting will be attended by Defense Minister Israel Katz, IDF Chief of Staff General Eyal Zamir, Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, and IDF Operations Directorate head General Itzik Cohen. During the meeting, the broadcaster reports, Zamir is expected to present Netanyahu with several operational options for the continuation of the war in Gaza. The goal of the meeting is to finalize a plan to be presented later this week at a broader government meeting already announced by Netanyahu. According to media reports, following yesterday's cabinet meeting, Netanyahu told ministers he intends to seek government approval for a full reoccupation of the Gaza Strip—a move facing resistance even within the military itself.
