USA, Trump: “Four Names in Mind to Replace Powell at the Fed”

Turin, Aug. 5 (LaPresse) – U.S. President Donald Trump told CNBC he has narrowed down the field of potential future Federal Reserve governors, currently led by Jerome Powell, to four candidates. The list does not include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Although Trump did not reveal who is in the running, he disclosed that Bessent, previously considered a top contender, has withdrawn from the race. “I love Scott, but he wants to stay where he is,” Trump said during an interview on Squawk Box. “I asked him just last night, ‘Is that something you want?’ [Bessent replied]: ‘No, I want to stay where I am.’ In fact, he said: ‘I want to work with you.’ It’s a great honor. I told him, ‘That’s very nice. I appreciate it.’” Among the likely remaining candidates are former governor Kevin Warsh and Kevin Hassett, Director of the National Economic Council and a key Trump adviser. Both have spoken in favor of lower interest rates. “Both Kevins are very good, and there are other people who are just as good,” Trump added.
