San Juan (Puerto Rico), 16 August (LaPresse/AP) – Hurricane Erin has intensified to a Category 4 storm in the Caribbean. The storm is currently located 240 kilometres northeast of Anguilla with sustained winds reaching 215 km/h. It is moving west-northwest at a speed of 31 km/h. At present, it is not expected to make landfall, but strong winds are affecting nearby islands, prompting meteorologists to warn of the possibility of flooding and landslides. A tropical storm warning has been issued for St. Martin, St. Barthelemy and Sint Maarten. According to the National Hurricane Centre in Miami, up to 10 centimetres of rain is expected, with isolated peaks of up to 15 centimetres.
