Rome, August 26 (LaPresse) – Associated Press and Reuters have sent a letter to Israeli officials regarding the attacks on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis:
"Dear Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, and Government Press Office Director Nitzan Chen," the news agencies write, "we are writing to request a clear explanation of the airstrikes that hit Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on August 25, 2025, killing several journalists, including those working for Associated Press and Reuters. Freelance journalists Mariam Dagga and Moaz Abu Taha had worked for AP and Reuters respectively, as well as other media during the war. Cameraman Hussam al-Masri was a freelance contributor for Reuters. Photographer Hatem Khaled, also a freelance contributor for Reuters, was injured. We are outraged that independent journalists were among the victims of this attack on a hospital, a location protected under international law. These journalists were carrying out their profession, performing vital work and bearing witness. Their work is especially crucial given Israel's nearly two-year ban on foreign journalists entering Gaza," the letter continues.
"The Israel Defense Forces have admitted to carrying out the strikes and stated they are investigating. In a statement, the IDF said they 'do not target journalists as such.' Unfortunately, we have found that the IDF’s willingness and ability to independently investigate past incidents rarely result in clarity or concrete action, raising serious questions, including whether Israel is deliberately targeting live broadcasts to suppress information. We hope this investigation will be swift, thorough, and provide clear answers. These deaths require immediate and transparent accountability."
