Tariffs: Supreme Court accepts Trump's appeal, hearing in November

Washington (USA), Sept. 10 (LaPresse) – The Supreme Court has announced it will review the appeal filed by the Trump Administration regarding the president’s authority to impose tariffs on U.S. trade partners. The case will be fast-tracked, with oral arguments scheduled for the first week of November. A federal appeals court had previously ruled 7 to 4 that Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to justify tariffs was unlawful.

Meanwhile, the current occupant of the White House has asked the EU to impose tariffs of up to 100% on India and China, as part of a joint effort to increase pressure on Russia to end its war in Ukraine, according to three officials familiar with the matter. The Financial Times reports that the former president made the request during a high-level meeting between U.S. and EU officials in Washington, focused on increasing the economic cost of the war for Moscow.
