Milan, 16 September. (LaPresse) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with British broadcaster Sky News at the presidential palace in Kiev, asked US President Donald Trump to take a “clear position” on sanctions against Russia and security guarantees for Ukraine in order to stop Vladimir Putin and end the war. Zelensky said that the only way to stop the fighting is to first put in place defined security guarantees and that, in his opinion, this can only happen if Trump is bold. The Ukrainian president expressed his hope that, during Trump's upcoming visit to the UK, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will discuss the details with him to secure Ukraine's future. ‘I sincerely hope that he (Starmer, ed.) will be able to have a very specific discussion about US security guarantees for Ukraine,’ he said. He added: "Before ending the war, I really want all the agreements to be in place. I want… to have a document that is supported by the United States and all European partners. This is very important. For that to happen, we need a clear position from President Trump."
