NATO, Berlin denounces Russian provocation: ‘Jet flew over frigate in the Baltic Sea’

Frankfurt (Germany), 24 September. (LaPresse) – A Russian military aircraft flew over a German Navy frigate in the Baltic Sea. This was reported by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, who described the incident as further Russian provocation, in line with recent incursions by drones and fighter jets into Polish and Estonian airspace. In military parlance, close flyovers are considered unnecessarily provocative acts. ‘With increasing frequency and intensity, Russia is testing boundaries, including those of NATO member states,’ Pistorius told the Bundestag, urging approval of the increased defence budget. ‘Putin wants to provoke us and the countries of the Alliance, and he is trying to identify and exploit NATO's alleged weaknesses. But he is mistaken,’ the minister added.
