White House suspends $2.1 billion in funding for Chicago

Washington (USA), 3 October (LaPresse) – The Trump administration will withhold $2.1 billion for infrastructure projects in Chicago. The announcement was made by the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, Russ Vought, intensifying the political battle being fought during the shutdown. The suspension concerns a long-awaited plan to extend one of the city's railway lines. The funds have been ‘suspended to ensure that funding is not provided through contracts based on racial criteria,’ Vought wrote on social media. Vought made a similar announcement earlier this week regarding New York, where he said $18 billion in infrastructure funding would be suspended, including funding for a new railway tunnel under the Hudson River.
