China: Third quarter GDP slows to +4.8%, retail sales growth slows

Hong Kong, 20 October (LaPresse) – In the third quarter of the year, the Chinese economy slowed down, growing by 4.8% in the wake of trade tensions with the United States and weak domestic demand. The figure is down both compared to the July-September period of 2024 and compared to the previous quarter (+5.2%). In the January-September period, the world's second-largest economy grew at an annual rate of 5.2%. Retail sales in China rose 3% in September compared to the previous year, in line with analysts' forecasts. However, this figure represents a slowdown compared to the 3.4% annual growth recorded in August.
