Milan, 22 October (LaPresse) – ‘A terrorist act.’ This is how Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic described what happened in front of the Serbian Parliament, where a man in his thirties shot and seriously injured one person and set fire to a tent. "I apologise for having to leave this wonderful meeting. The reason is the terrorist act that took place in front of the National Assembly, and I will have to deal with it during the day," said Vucic, who thus left an official event being held at the government headquarters. This ‘is my political opinion’ because the man ‘used a firearm with the intent to cause public danger and with an undoubted political motive,’ Vucic said. Pro-government tabloids have accused an opponent of the government of being behind the shooting. Vucic also showed a video of the incident and the alleged confession of the shooter at the time of his arrest, in which he stated that he wanted the police to kill him and that he was ‘annoyed by the tents’ in Belgrade. The reference is to the tents housing Vucic's supporters in front of the Parliament in central Belgrade. These tents were set up in March as a “shield” against the anti-government protests that have been sweeping the country for months and pose the most serious challenge to Vucic's government. ‘It was only a matter of time before this happened,’ said Vucic, who has repeatedly accused anti-government protesters of violence, even though their protests have been mostly peaceful.
