Ukraine, IAEA: ‘Damage to substation critical for nuclear safety’

Rome, 1 Nov. (LaPresse) – A team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited an electrical substation critical to nuclear safety in Ukraine today and reported damage caused by recent military activities. This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, as reported in a note from the agency itself. Following reports of damage, the IAEA promptly sent a team to one of the affected substations. The team conducted a thorough inspection of the area, obtaining immediate, first-hand information on the damage and assessing its impact on the safety and security of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. It confirmed damage to the substation's equipment and determined that there was a negative impact on the reliability of the external power supply to Ukrainian nuclear power plants, thereby compromising nuclear safety and security.
