France, Sarkozy: ‘It's tough, prison is a nightmare’

Milan, 10 November (LaPresse) – ‘It's hard, very hard.’ These were the words of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, speaking about his detention, which he described as ‘a nightmare,’ on the day the Paris Court of Appeal is expected to rule on his release. ‘I would like you to be convinced of one thing: I never had the crazy idea of asking Gaddafi for any funding. I will never confess to something I did not do,’ Sarkozy said. "I responded scrupulously to all summonses. I never imagined I would be in prison at 70. This trial was imposed on me, and I lived through it. It is hard, it is very hard,‘ he continued. He added: ’I love my country, my family is in France, I am fighting for the truth to prevail.‘ Sarkozy also ’paid tribute‘ to the prison staff, saying that they ’showed exceptional humanity, making this nightmare bearable".
