Rome, 16 November (LaPresse) – A volcano in Sakurajima, in Kagoshima Prefecture in south-western Japan, erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning, sending a column of ash and smoke up to 4,400 metres into the atmosphere. This was reported by local media, citing the meteorological agency. The eruption continued after the initial event, prompting the agency to issue an ashfall forecast for some areas of Kagoshima, Kumamoto and Miyazaki prefectures. No injuries or damage to buildings were reported.
