Ukraine, Starmer: ‘Peace agreement requires rigorous security guarantees’

Milan, 8 December (LaPresse) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says that a peace agreement for Ukraine requires ‘rigorous security guarantees’ to ensure that Russian President Vladimir Putin respects any agreement. ‘If you want a ceasefire, it has to be fair, because Ukraine has suffered enormous losses and paid a very high price for a war that it did not cause,’ Starmer told the Press Association on the day of his meeting in London with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron. According to the BBC, Starmer also praised US President Donald Trump, saying that the White House tenant had advanced peace negotiations ‘further than we have done in the last four years’ in just a few weeks. Peace talks are complicated, he noted, ‘but I think we are making progress’.
