US, American fighter jets flew over the Gulf of Venezuela

Washington, Dec. 10 (LaPresse) – Two US F-18 fighter jets entered Venezuelan airspace around noon on Tuesday, flying over the Gulf of Venezuela. The Miami Herald reports that the overflight occurred less than 100 miles northeast of Maracaibo. Thousands of Venezuelans followed the jets’ flight online through specialized websites, observing them trace a butterfly-shaped path over the gulf. The aircraft remained in Venezuelan airspace for at least 40 minutes at an altitude of about 25,000 feet before heading north and leaving the area. The US fighters flew between two key regions for Venezuela’s energy sector, the states of Zulia and Falcón.
