Milan, 16 December (LaPresse) – The Kremlin has rejected a Christmas truce, emphasising that Russia is committed to long-term peace, according to Russian news agency Tass. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the idea of a Christmas truce, said: ‘Our position is well known, consistent, transparent and understandable to the Americans. And, in principle, we are convinced that it is also understandable to the Ukrainians. If the Ukrainians have a prevailing desire to replace the achievement of an agreement with short-term and unsustainable solutions, it is unlikely that we will be willing to participate.’ ‘We want peace, we do not want a ceasefire, so to speak, to give Ukraine a moment's respite and prepare to continue the war. We want to stop this war, achieve our goals, secure our interests and ensure peace in Europe for the future. That is what we want,’ Peskov added. The last phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump was on 16 October.
