France: Macron enacts law to temporarily extend 2025 budget

Rome, 27 December (LaPresse) – French President Emmanuel Macron has enacted a special law allowing the 2025 budget to be provisionally extended into 2026, after the executive failed to reach an agreement on the approval of next year's budget law. The news was reported by French broadcaster BfmTv. The special law does not authorise new taxes or new spending compared to the 2025 budget, particularly for defence, which is a priority for Macron. Negotiations on the budget will resume in January. The government hopes to approve the budget law before the end of the month.
