Venezuela: Spain, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay against US attack

Rome, 4 January (LaPresse) – The governments of Spain, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay have signed a joint statement expressing ‘deep concern and disapproval of the military actions taken unilaterally’ by the US ‘in the territory of Venezuela’. called for a ‘peaceful’ solution and ‘respect for the will of the Venezuelan people,’ and expressed concern about ‘any attempt at external control, administration or appropriation of natural or strategic resources, which,’ they said, ‘is incompatible with international law and threatens the political, economic and social stability of the region.’ We express our deep concern and disapproval of the military actions taken unilaterally in the territory of Venezuela, which violate the fundamental principles of international law, in particular the prohibition of the use of force or the threat of force and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.
