Rome, 26 Jan. (LaPresse) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has asked to summon the Israeli ambassador to Italy to seek clarification and confirm the strong protest over yesterday's incident involving two Carabinieri officers on duty at the Italian Consulate General in Jerusalem. The two officers were stopped in Palestinian territory, near Ramallah, probably by a “settler” threatening them with a machine gun. The Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv has already lodged a formal protest with the Israeli Government, addressing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, COGAT, the IDF General Staff, the police and Shin Bet (the Israeli security service responsible for the Palestinian Territories). ‘The two police officers illegally detained yesterday by an Israeli settler in the West Bank were forced to kneel at gunpoint and “interrogated” by the settler,’ government sources report.
