Bad weather, EU: ‘We are monitoring developments in Italy, no commissioners visiting for now’

Brussels, 30 January (LaPresse) – "We are aware of the serious situation in southern Italy and are closely monitoring developments. The Italian authorities are managing the emergency response with their robust civil protection capabilities. At present, there are no plans for a visit by Executive Vice-President Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto or Commissioner Hadja Lahbib. Our Emergency Response Coordination Centre is ready to send aid if Italy requests it." This was stated to LaPresse by a spokesperson for the European Commission, when asked about the emergency caused by bad weather in southern Italy hit by Cyclone Harry and the invitation by Forza Italia MEPs to European commissioners to visit the affected areas.
