USA: FBI agent impersonated to free Luigi Mangione, who had been arrested

Washington (USA), 30 January (LaPresse) – A 36-year-old man from Minnesota has been arrested and charged with impersonating an FBI agent after attempting to enter a federal prison to secure the release of Luigi Mangione. This has been reported by various US media outlets, citing law enforcement sources. According to sources, the man, Mark Anderson, arrived at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, New York, on Wednesday evening, claiming to be an FBI agent with a court order for Mangione's release. When Bureau of Prisons (BOP) agents asked the man for his documents, he showed them a Minnesota driving licence. He also allegedly stated that he had weapons in his bag. Prison officers then searched Anderson's backpack and found a barbecue fork and a circular steel blade. Anderson is scheduled to appear before a federal judge this afternoon. Mangione has been held in federal prison since his arrest in December 2024 for the alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Charged with murder at the federal and state levels, he has pleaded not guilty.
