Minneapolis (Minnesota), 4 February (LaPresse/AP) – Border czar Tom Homan, sent by Donald Trump to Minneapolis, has announced that 700 immigration agents will be withdrawn immediately from Minnesota. Homan cited as the reason for the withdrawal of 700 of the approximately 3,000 federal agents deployed in Minnesota the fact that state and local officials have agreed to cooperate by handing over arrested immigrants. ‘Given this unprecedented increase in cooperation, and as a result of the need for fewer law enforcement officers to do this job and a safer environment, I am announcing, with immediate effect, that we will withdraw 700 people starting today – 700 law enforcement officers,’ Homan said at a press conference. Last week, the border czar said federal authorities could reduce the number of federal agents in Minnesota, but only if state and local officials cooperated. His comments came after US President Donald Trump appeared to signal a willingness to ease tensions in the Minneapolis area.
