Washington (USA), Feb. 9 (LaPresse) – Elon Musk’s ambition to create a colony on Mars seems to have taken a back seat in favor of a more immediate and achievable goal: sending humans to live on the Moon. The entrepreneur stated on X that his company SpaceX has now shifted priorities toward building "a self-sufficient city on the Moon," arguing that this goal could be achieved in less than a decade, compared to the more than 20 years required for a similar plan on Mars. "The priority is to ensure the future of civilization, and the Moon is a faster route," Musk explained. "Traveling to Mars is only possible when the planets align every 26 months (with a travel time of six months), whereas we can launch to the Moon every 10 days (with a travel time of 2 days)." The entrepreneur said that SpaceX remains committed to building a city on Mars and will begin doing so in about five to seven years. Until last May, Musk had said the company was working to land its first crewless Starship on Mars by the end of 2026.
