The news was announced by his family, as reported by NBC News. ‘Our father was a leader in service to the community, not only to our family, but also to the oppressed, the voiceless and the marginalised around the world,’ the Jackson family said in a statement. "We shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family. His unwavering faith in justice, equality and love motivated millions of people, and we ask you to honour his memory by continuing the fight for the values he lived by." The cause of death has not been disclosed. The family said that Jackson died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
