Rome, 18 March (LaPresse) – Pakistan has announced a pause in attacks on Afghanistan, stating that the decision was taken ahead of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr at the request of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. In a statement, Pakistani Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that the pause in attacks against “terrorists and their support infrastructure in Afghanistan” would come into effect at midnight on Wednesday and remain in force until midnight on Monday. “Pakistan is offering this gesture in good faith and in accordance with Islamic norms,” he said, adding that “in the event of any cross-border attack, drone strike or any terrorist incident within Pakistan”, operations would resume immediately with renewed intensity.
