US bet on capturing Maduro: American soldier who took part in raid arrested

Washington (USA), 23 April (LaPresse) – A US special forces soldier involved in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been arrested on charges of betting on the operation, winning $400,000. This is according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to CNN. It was the size of the winnings that caught the authorities’ attention. The soldier is said to have opened an account at the end of December on Polymarket, one of the best-known prediction market platforms. He staked around $32,000 on the likelihood that Maduro would be ‘out of the game’ by the end of January. It was a bet with extremely low odds of success. Shortly after the bet was placed, the US armed forces carried out a covert operation to capture Maduro from the presidential palace in Caracas. Maduro was then transferred to New York to face federal charges relating to drug trafficking.
