Failed assassination attempt on the “Butcher of Bucha” in Russia

Rome, 1 May (LaPresse) – An explosion this week killed a Moscow army officer in a town in the Russian Far East, in what appears to be an attempt to target General Azatbek Omurbekov, known as the “Butcher of Bucha”. The Guardian reports. According to three sources familiar with the incident, the bomb exploded at around 9 am on Tuesday in a block of flats in Knyaze-Volkonskoye. The attacker – it is explained – had placed the bomb in a letterbox between the first and second floors and installed a camera, but targeted the wrong entrance; consequently, Omurbekov remained unharmed whilst one of his officers paid the price.
