Milan, 2 May (LaPresse) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to whom he emphasised ‘the need to avoid further escalation and to step up efforts to reach an agreement on a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz’ and ‘clearly confirmed that for Italy, the development of an Iranian nuclear programme for military purposes represents a red line, with the real risk of triggering a dangerous nuclear arms race in the region’. Tajani himself announced this in a post on X, in which he also added that “Iran must exert its influence over Hezbollah” to achieve peace in Lebanon.
