Washington (USA), May 9 (LaPresse) – Donald Trump “strongly desires” an end to the war with Iran. This is reported by The Atlantic, which explains that the U.S. president is “tired” of a conflict that “has turned out to be much more difficult and prolonged than he had anticipated.” Trump, it is also reported, “does not want to remain bogged down in a Middle Eastern conflict as some of his predecessors did, and does not want it to compromise the highly important summit scheduled for next week in China. He is ready to turn the page.” At the same time, The Atlantic writes, Iran does not want the war to end. Or at least “not with an outcome that would be acceptable to American negotiators.” Trump now finds himself in a difficult position. The president, the magazine says citing anonymous aides to the tycoon, “is convinced he can present any kind of agreement as a victory,” but Washington is currently still awaiting Iran’s response to the latest proposal, “a one-page memorandum of understanding that resembles more an extension of the ceasefire than a treaty to end the conflict.”
