Milan, 12 May (LaPresse) – Ministers are arriving at 10 Downing Street in London as we speak for a Cabinet meeting deemed crucial to determining the fate of the government led by Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The Prime Minister is in a precarious position because, following the outcome of Thursday’s local elections, Labour “is in turmoil and even the Cabinet is divided over whether Starmer should remain in office”, writes the BBC. At least 72 Labour MPs have urged Starmer to resign immediately or to set out a timetable for doing so. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is also said to be among those who have asked the Prime Minister to set a timeline for his departure from Downing Street. Ahead of the meeting, Rachel Reeves has already arrived at Downing Street, entering Number 11, her official residence, whilst Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy has gone to Number 10. The BBC notes that Lammy appeared smiling on his arrival but ignored questions from journalists, who asked him: “Is it over for Keir Starmer?”, “Will you ask him to resign?”.
