London (United Kingdom), 21 May (LaPresse) – Queen Elizabeth II was keen for Prince Andrew to become the UK’s trade envoy. This is according to confidential documents relating to the appointment, released today by the British government, which state that the Queen was ‘very much in favour’ of the former Prince Andrew being appointed trade envoy. ‘The Queen is very keen for the Duke of York to take a leading role in promoting national interests,’ the head of the British trade body had written in a letter. The late Queen’s involvement will confirm widely held beliefs that the monarch had a soft spot for her son, a fondness that may have contributed to a lack of decisiveness in addressing allegations regarding Andrew’s links to Jeffrey Epstein. In February, MPs had passed a motion calling for the documents to be released after the former prince, now known simply as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on charges of sharing government reports with Epstein whilst serving as a trade envoy.
