Anholt (Denmark), May 30 (LaPresse) – The carcass of the whale, known in Germany by the nicknames “Timmy” and “Hope”, has been recovered and dragged onto the beach of the Danish island of Anholt after remaining for around two weeks in shallow waters. The animal, which had been followed for months by German media after being spotted in the Baltic Sea, was found dead on May 14 in the Kattegat. Its story gave rise to a long and controversial rescue attempt, culminating on May 2 with the transfer of the whale on a barge to the North Sea in an effort to guide it back towards its natural habitat in the Atlantic Ocean. Next week the carcass will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Experts have not yet clarified why the cetacean ventured into the Baltic Sea, suggesting that it may have lost its route during migration or while following a school of herring.
