Russian drone in Romania: Podolyak says, ‘Moscow's aim is to provoke the EU to gauge its reaction’

Milan, 30 May (LaPresse) – ‘A provocative move to gauge the Alliance’s reaction.’ This is what Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, said in an interview with La Repubblica. ‘Moscow knows no bounds. It believes that Europe today is unable to defend its own interests,’ he states. "Any incident on European NATO territory is a provocative move that raises the stakes. ‘If there is no adequate response, Russia will continue to escalate.’ ‘Putin and Russia are spreading disinformation to justify their right to kill citizens of another country,’ he said regarding the proposal to carry out a joint analysis of the drone that struck Romania yesterday, as requested by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stated at a press conference that the drone was “Ukrainian”. ‘Russia is launching large-scale attacks across the whole of Ukrainian territory and provoking Ukraine’s neighbouring countries: Poland, Romania and Moldova. There is no doubt that these are Russian drones,’ he emphasises. "There is no need for any investigation: the act of aggression is a crime. If there were no war in Ukraine, there would be no drones over the territories of other European countries. Putin wants to test the Alliance’s weakness: he must be punished for actions that undermine the security of European countries.”
