Iran: WSJ, Trump would only resume hostilities if US soldiers were killed

Milan, 4 June (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump is reported to have told aides in private that he would consider ending the truce with Iran should Tehran kill American soldiers. The Wall Street Journal reports this, citing US officials, who have emphasised that the truce on air strikes, in place for weeks, remains in force despite the constant succession of violent clashes. The president’s reluctance to reignite the war suggests he may be willing to tolerate small outbreaks of violence for weeks, or even months, in order to avoid a wider conflict in the Middle East. However, US officials have stated that the repeated attacks have increased the pressure on Trump and cast doubt on the long-term sustainability of the ceasefire.
