There is no justification for the violence and disorder we saw threatening our communities, nor for those who incited it, online or elsewhere." This was written by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in a post on social media platform X. "It is clear that some people were targeted last night because of their origins, and I will not tolerate that. Those responsible will face the full force of the law," he added. "I spoke with the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland to express my gratitude to them and to the frontline emergency services for the courage they showed in keeping people safe. I also spoke with the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister to discuss the ongoing situation." Starmer concluded: "The call for calm must be the priority, and that is what I urge now. We must allow the police to do their job."
