Washington (USA), 14 June (LaPresse/AP) – Republican Senator Mitch McConnell has been admitted to hospital. “Senator McConnell was admitted to hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care,” said spokesman David Popp in a statement, without providing further details. McConnell, 84, was the longest-serving Senate leader in history before stepping down whilst serving his final term, which expires in January. McConnell had fallen and sprained his wrist whilst leaving a GOP lunch in December 2024. In March 2023, he was hospitalised with a concussion after falling at a hotel in Washington. Following his return that summer, he froze twice during press conferences, staring blankly ahead before colleagues and staff came to his aid. McConnell had polio as a child and has long admitted to having some difficulty walking and climbing stairs. In addition to the fall in 2023, he also tripped and fell in 2019 at his home in Kentucky and underwent surgery for a broken shoulder.
