Iran, von der Leyen: "EU sanctions revocation if real change in attitude"

Brussels, June 15 (LaPresse) – "We have a sanctions framework that addresses two main issues. The first is human rights violations, the second is weapons of mass destruction. The principle of sanctions is that we need a real change on the ground before we can consider lifting them. Sanctions are in place to change behaviour. So, if behaviour changes in a credible and verifiable way, then sanctions can be lifted. But the opposite is also true. As long as there is no change in behaviour, sanctions cannot be lifted because of human rights violations and weapons of mass destruction." This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference at the G7 in Evian, France, answering a question on the possibility of lifting sanctions on Iran after an agreement.
