Rome, 28 October (LaPresse) – The world of art and photography is in mourning. Mimmo Jodice, considered one of the most important photographers in the world, has died. One of the leading exponents of avant-garde photography, he was 91 years old. He was born in Naples on 29 March 1934, in the Rione Sanità district. He became interested in photography in the 1950s. In the 1960s, he had his first exhibitions with Lucio Amelio and collaborated with Andy Warhol, Sol LeWitt, Joseph Beuys, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jannis Kounellis, and Alberto Burri, to name a few. From 1970 to 1994, he taught photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. He experimented extensively with techniques, printing methods and materials. During his long and intense career, in which he experimented extensively and explored different styles, he held solo exhibitions in museums around the world, from the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1995 to the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in 1998.
