Milan, April 5 (LaPresse) – "April 2 could be remembered as the 9/11 of the economy." This was stated by former Prime Minister Enrico Letta in an interview with 'La Stampa.' According to Letta, "The tariffs were madness, an incomprehensible operation. I can’t understand on what basis we can talk about negotiations," as it’s a "global, structural operation, incomprehensible in the way it was built, with an algorithm." "It’s very difficult to think about serious and manageable negotiations. The figures used to create Trump's plan seem to have come out of the worst artificial intelligence. It’s complex to build a negotiation framework on these bases," Letta further emphasized. "Trump’s aggression cannot leave us indifferent. Inertia, in the face of this, is unimaginable. This shows that his attitude toward the EU is very different from that towards China or Russia. Trump respects Xi and Putin. I find it incredible that, with the EU, alongside the tariff aggression, there is this contempt. We are facing an attack on Europe as such," added the former Prime Minister.
