Milan, 16 Apr (LaPresse/AP) – China's GDP grew 5.4 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, exceeding analysts' expectations. This is according to data released today by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Xinhua news agency reported. On a quarterly basis, China's economy grew by 1.2 per cent in January-March. Analysts predict that the world's second largest economy will experience a significant slowdown in the coming months as tariffs of up to 145% on US imports from China come into effect. Exports have been an important factor in China's ability to achieve an annual growth rate of 5% in 2024 and the official target for this year remains around 5%.
