Milan, May 2 (LaPresse) – In March 2025, the decrease in employment on a monthly basis is accompanied by a rise in unemployment and a drop in inactivity, according to Istat's latest update on Italy's labor market.
Employment fell by 0.1% (equal to -16,000 units), affecting women, people under 35, temporary employees, and the self-employed. In contrast, employment rose among other age groups, men, and permanent employees. The employment rate remained stable at 63.0%, with a total of 24.307 million employed people.
The unemployment rate increased to 6.0% (+0.1 percentage points), while youth unemployment rose to 19.0% (+1.6 points). Istat highlights that the rise in job seekers (+2.1%, or +32,000 units) was observed only among men and those under 50.
The number of inactive individuals aged 15–64 fell by 0.1% (-11,000 units), mainly among men and those aged 35–49, while it increased among women and other age groups—except for those aged 15–24, who remained stable. The inactivity rate remained unchanged at 32.9%.
