Milan, May 21 (LaPresse) – The European consumer organization BEUC (from the French acronym), made up of 16 affiliated organizations from 12 countries, has filed a complaint with the European Commission and the Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) network against seven airlines (EasyJet, Norwegian Airlines, Ryanair, Transavia, Volotea, Vueling, and Wizzair) for allegedly imposing unfair surcharges on consumers for hand luggage. "We are calling for a Europe-wide investigation into the business practices of the airlines concerned and the sector as a whole," the association said. "Haven’t we all feared that our hand luggage might not fit in the airline's measuring frames and that we’d be charged extra fees? Today, we are taking action against seven airlines that exploit consumers and disregard the ruling of the European Court of Justice, which states it is illegal to impose extra charges for reasonably sized hand luggage. This was recently reinforced by fines issued in Spain, confirming that passengers are entitled to bring reasonably sized hand luggage on board at no additional cost," commented BEUC Director General Agustín Reyna.
