Rome, 20 June (LaPresse) – ‘On behalf of myself and the entire CGIL, I express my full support, solidarity and closeness to all metalworkers.’ This was stated in a note by CGIL secretary Maurizio Landini.Today, the CGIL leader continued, metalworkers took part in a strike called by the FIOM, FIM and UILM unions and demonstrated throughout Italy. In Bologna, ten thousand people marched along the ring road. And instead of the reopening of negotiations for the renewal of the contract, the news is that, according to the security decree recently passed by the government, these workers will be reported to the authorities. This is clearly a crime introduced to repress those who peacefully express their needs." ‘Security for whom?’ asks Landini, adding: ‘We are truly in a country that is going backwards. In the name of defending supposed security, they want to prosecute and convict men and women who work to live, pay taxes and keep our country's production system going.’Their national collective labour agreement has been expired for a year and companies are refusing to negotiate. Metalworkers are demanding wage increases, reduced working hours, safety at work, training and an end to precarious employment."
