Rome, July 15 (LaPresse) – “In 2023, we saved 1.5 million tons of CO2; a major decarbonization effort is coming from rail transport,” said FS CEO Stefano Donnarumma during his speech at the conference "Economy of the Sea: The Blue Engine of Italian Competitiveness", held at Confindustria’s headquarters in Rome.
“One single train is equivalent to about thirty trucks, so the possibility of developing freight transport by rail — connecting ports and intermodal exchange areas and perhaps promoting last-mile delivery using electric vehicles — is being conceived, hypothesized, and pursued from a planning perspective,” he added. “Ferrovie dello Stato is investing in Europe. We have a major presence in Germany in the freight sector. We are managing everything needed to integrate freight and passenger mobility as much as possible.”
