Rome, 26 July (LaPresse) – ‘Every day I see rivers of people arriving in the city, but without a destination, moving from one place to another, often guided by tour operators, getting on gondolas, getting into taxis, running here and there, but nobody buys anything.’ This is the complaint made by Setrak Tokatzian, president of the Piazza San Marco association in Venice, in an interview with Corriere del Veneto. ‘Personally,’ he says, "I believe that a threshold should be set at least for coach tours, and I would add that I would charge these people 100 euros each. There are waves of people with white bracelets arriving from campsites. These people don't even know what culture is, and you can see it because they arrive, they don't even know where they are, and they leave without buying anything. On the other hand, there are more and more illegal traders making money right in front of our eyes. This is my daily battle. I'm sorry to say it, but this kind of tourism is obscene. There is a total explosion of overtourism never seen before, with a type of person who wanders around without going into shops and without even knowing where they are."
