Milan, 29 July (LaPresse) – ‘We are waiting to read the details’ of the agreement on tariffs, but ‘regardless of tariffs and Trump, this EU and this European Commission are a problem for Italian and European businesses, and therefore, while waiting to understand how Trump's tariffs will affect us, we Italians can demand that the EU Commission change the rules that are putting Italian businesses out of business. This does not depend on Trump, Putin or Zelensky.’ This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Matteo Salvini on the sidelines of the Stretto Messina Spa board meeting in Rome. ‘The League never voted for von Der Leyen, and those who now realise that she may not be suitable have always voted for her until last month,’ he pointed out. Salvini also told reporters that ‘it would be reasonable for von der Leyen to scrap the Stability Pact,’ just as it would be ‘reasonable’ to put pressure on the European Central Bank to lower interest rates in order to rebalance the euro-dollar exchange rate.
