Naples, 24 August (LaPresse) – There is room for negotiation on tariffs ‘for wines and certain food products, as well as for steel and aluminium’. This was stated by the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, in an interview with Corriere della Sera. ‘We must insist,’ added Urso, ‘aware of our good reasons. It is nevertheless important to have averted a “trade war”, which would have had devastating effects for everyone.’ Urso explained that "we are working with Minister Tajani on a plan to promote new markets and consolidate our position in the US, where consumers have no intention of giving up the quality of Italian products. The growth recorded in recent months in some non-EU markets is a good sign. This is why we are insisting that the Commission finalise a number of free trade agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council and, looking ahead, with India, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Obviously, this also includes Mercosur, while protecting agricultural production."
