Cernobbio (Como), 7 September (LaPresse) – ‘The increase in defence spending is a new factor which, as in other European countries, implies a different projection for public accounts. This is something we must evaluate and address, and ultimately we hope that it will not compromise our economic and political objectives in the broadest sense.’ These were the words of Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, speaking via video link to the Teha Forum in Cernobbio, during a panel discussion on the third and final day of proceedings at Villa d'Este. ‘An element that is not only unpredictable but detestable in the escalation of the war in Ukraine,’ he stressed, which has led to ‘European decisions to increase defence spending.’
