Rome, 1 October (LaPresse) – "The attack on civilian ships carrying Italian citizens is an extremely serious matter. It is a blow to the constitutional order itself, preventing humanitarian action and solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are being subjected to a veritable genocide by the Israeli government. It is an attack on the safety and security of the workers and volunteers on board. It is not only a crime against defenceless people, but it is also serious that the Italian government has abandoned Italian workers in international waters, violating our constitutional principles." With these words, the CGIL announces, “in defence of the Flotilla, constitutional values and Gaza”, a national general strike of all public and private sectors for the entire day of Friday 3 October, pursuant to Article 2, paragraph 7, of Law No. 146/90. During the general strike, the CGIL states that ‘essential services will be guaranteed, as established by sector regulations’.
